ENGLISH PRESS RELEASE Sperequazione (part 2) Sperequazione is an exhibition trilogy by curators Guido Molinari, Michela Arfiero and Daniela Lotta. Each curator individually creates an exhibition program in collaboration with the gallery neon>campobas. The exhibitions facilitate the circulation of new and dynamic energies between the cities of Bologna and Milan. Sperequazione investigates the aesthetic discontinuities in contemporary visual art as we find ourselves in a current climate that is far from the definition of shared rules and canons of homogeneity. The perplexed reflex – Il riflesso perplesso curated by: Michela Arfiero dates: January 19 - February 18, 2006 opening: Wednesday, January 18, 2006, 6 - 12 pm gallery: neon>fdv hours: Tuesday – Friday, 4 – 8 pm website: www.neoncampobase.com location: la Fabrica del Vapor via Procaccini 4 20154 Milan ITALY - The perplexed reflex – Sergio Breviario, Paolo Gonzato, Fawn Krieger, Giuseppe Pietroniro A long way from collective conceptual structures and established aesthetic canons exists a creative approach, a recurrent element, an indefinite ingredient, an ideological position between the ego and the reflex-- between the self and the reverberation on the surface. If in physiology the reflex is an action, a movement, an involuntary reaction of the nervous system to an external stimulus, then the opposite is the response; artistic expression in which introspection prevails through spontaneity, reflection, and inspiration. The reflex-action illuminates an artist’s self-awareness and creative inhibition, as it reveals both their conscious and unconscious process of knowing. Every action is simultaneously explicit and implicit, as the artist engages with and through their materials and processes. The Perplexed Reflex examines a collection of work within the context of potential serial conditions: works that arise in relation to time and contingencies, and from pre-established actions that remain alterable, receptive to modified circumstances. My performance of “I’m walking” Begin: When I’m well into walking and can be 1967, unpublished Vito Acconci * Mario Diacono, Vito Acconci, Out of London Press Inc., New York 1975 Unlike Duchamp, Acconci does not depart from the object, but he chooses it to support his structure. A work lived through the form itself, reflecting its image back to both viewer and artist. The four artists included in part 2 of Sperequazione move with both positions: reflex and response. As form and image exchange, the selected work departs from its own materiality, referencing the essential elusiveness of the spontaneous creative impulse. neon>fdv via Procaccini 4 19 January-18 February 2006 Tue-Fri, 16.00-20.00, or by appointment For press inquiries, text, cv and images contact info@neoncampobase.com |
